JAPAN MISSING DUDES TRIP
Location: Tokyo, Japan / Tsukiji Outer Market
The first market in Tokyo was founded by Tokugawa Ieyasu during the Edo period to provide food to the aristocrats of the Edo Castle (as Tokyo was called until the 1870s).
The best part of the catch remained with the aristocracy, but the fishermen were allowed to sell the rest of the products to ordinary residents of the city. Gradually, a market was formed, called Nihonbashi Uogashi
In August 1918, during the so-called rice riots, when more than a hundred cities across Japan protested against food shortages and the speculative activities of wholesale capitalists, the Japanese Parliament was forced to set up new food trading establishments, especially in large cities. The Central Wholesale Market was founded in March 1923.
But the great earthquake of September 1, 1923, almost completely destroyed the central part of Tokyo, along with the market near Nihonbashi. Subsequently, the market was moved to the Tsukiji district and after the construction of modern infrastructure was completed in 1935 and began to function on the basis of the Central Wholesale Market.
TODAYOLDS WASNT HERE
(FOR ALL CLAIMS/COMPLAINS CALL) .. This is a joking (hahaha) ironic statement that continues the artist's exploration of the themes of absence, presence in outside art. This phrase suggests a kind of non-existence or deliberate departure from any place or moment. By declaring "TODAYOLDS WASN'T HERE" the artist is distancing himself from the situation, creating a paradox: he is both present and absent in the very act of declaring his absence. Especially in the context of outside art — which uses public, often ignored spaces to convey messages that are supposed to challenge societal norms, undermine traditional systems, and the complex relationship between art, power, and anonymity and commercialized art forms. The phrase here serves as a direct comment on the artist's relationship with the public sphere. Declaring, "I wasn't here."
The part "FOR ALL CLAIMS/COMPLAINS CALL" is a reference to bureaucratic or formal ways of handling complaints. However, this also highlights the joking inappropriateness of such complaints — there is no one to call, because the artist has already decided "not to be here."
